Galvanised Steel Coil: A Durable Material for Tough Conditions

What Is Galvanised Steel Coil?

Galvanised steel coil is a special type of steel coil used for various applications within fabrication and manufacturing environments. A steel coil of any kind is a flat stock that is thin enough to be rolled into a coil or wound into a continuous roll.

Galvanisation is the process of applying a protective coating to steel in order to prevent it from corrosion or rust. The coil itself is typically available in different dimensions. This could range from 6 inches to 24 inches wide (15cm to 51cm) and up to 3 meters long when rolled out flat.

The process of galvanisation involves applying a protective zinc coating to steel or iron. This is performed by special machines at production facilities.

How Galvanised Steel Coil Is Made

The process of making galvanised steel is fairly simple but involves specialised machinery.

The steel is first cleaned and treated with an etching solution, which helps to improve the adhesion of the galvanised coating. This removes any dirt, debris, or oil.

Next, the steel is dipped in a vat of molten zinc. This zinc coating helps to protect the steel from corrosion and rust. Passing through a furnace, where it is heated to around 1200 degrees Celsius, the zinc moulds to the steel. The high temperature helps to ensure that the galvanising process penetrates deep into the steel.

After leaving the furnace, the steel is passed through a series of rollers, which gradually cools it down.

This process not only strengthens the galvanised coating but also gives the steel a smooth, consistent finish. Finally, the galvanised steel coil is trimmed and cut to size before being ready for use.

The Benefits of Using Galvanised Steel Coil

The galvanisation process provides a layer of protection against corrosion, which is especially important in areas where the steel will be exposed to moisture or other corrosive elements.

In addition to its corrosion resistance, galvanised steel coil also has a number of other benefits. For example, it is highly durable, so it can withstand heavy use without being damaged. It is also relatively low-maintenance, so it does not require regular cleaning or painting.

Steel coil can also be rolled out flat and cut at your desired length and shape. As a result, galvanised steel coil is an ideal choice for a wide range of applications.

Galvanised Steel Coil Applications in Various Industries

From building materials to automotive parts, galvanised steel coil is an essential component of many products.

It’s most often used in industries where steel is exposed to a lot of moisture or chemical substances. In the construction industry, galvanised steel coils are used for roofing and cladding. In the automotive industry for parts such as car bodies and doors. They are also used in the manufacturing of electrical equipment and appliances. Furthermore, galvanised steel coil can be used in the food and beverage industry, as it is non-toxic and safe for contact with food.

Thanks to its durability, strength and rust-resistant properties, galvanised steel coil will continue to play a vital role in manufacturing for years to come.
