Hot Rolled Coils
At Australian Steel Traders (AST), we source premium-quality hot rolled coils that are tailored to meet all sorts of industrial needs. Our hot rolled coils are expertly crafted, strong, durable and consistent – an ideal choice for the construction, automotive and manufacturing sectors.
Why Hot Rolled Over Cold Rolled
The difference comes down to temperature: hot rolling happens above the steel’s recrystallisation point, which makes it easier to form into shape and cheaper to produce, cold rolling adds a finishing pass at room temperature for tighter tolerances and a smoother finish, at a higher cost. If your application needs precision dimensions or a polished surface, cold rolled is worth the premium. If it doesn’t, hot rolled does the job for less.
Where It Gets Used
- Structural framework and building components
- Automotive parts where surface finish isn’t the priority
- Heavy machinery and equipment fabrication
- Downstream re-rolling into other flat products
What To Confirm When You Order
Get specific on width, length, thickness and grade before you request a quote, hot rolled coil is sold to custom specification, not off a fixed size chart, so vague requests slow down your lead time. If you need it processed further, slit to width, cut to length, or blanked, ask up front, not every supplier in the chain offers every processing step, and it’s worth confirming ours does before you assume it.
Sourcing Through AST
We source hot rolled coil from a global network of suppliers, matched to your spec rather than pulled from a single fixed inventory. It’s one of the raw inputs behind our structural beam range too, so if you’re specifying both the coil and the finished section for the same project, we can quote them together. Contact us today with your width, length, thickness and grade and we’ll come back with pricing and lead time.
